What do you get when you bring a room full of engineers, test benches, prototypes, and a new protocol version together?
Last week, as Chairman of the OpenTherm Association Technical Committee, I hosted our technical workshop at Groupe Atlantic. We explored real-world implementations, exchanged thoughts on version 5.0, and even questioned long-standing UI choices (like showing a flame icon on a heat pump).
One highlight: seeing OpenTherm mapped onto Modbus, a great example of how the protocol can evolve beyond its traditional interface.
We also looked at certification pain points and shared lessons learned to help new implementations get it right the first time.
Curious about how OpenTherm is being used in the field or what happens at a plugfest? I’d be happy to share more.
Thanks to all participants for the open discussions, and to Groupe Atlantic for hosting and offering a look inside their new test facility.
